1. How long have you been in the interior design industry, and what experience do you bring to the table?

With two decades of industry expertise and having held director-level roles in both design consultancy and construction sectors, Amina possesses vast knowledge of the creative aspects of complex projects as well as a clear understanding of how to mitigate risks and meet challenging deadlines while maintaining quality and integrity during the construction phase. With a focus on budget management, project timelines, and risk assessment, she has successfully led a diverse range of projects, from small-scale residential designs to large- scale commercial ventures. Leveraging this extensive background, Amina adeptly navigates the complexities of interior design projects, ensuring timely and budget-conscious delivery.

2. What sets your design services apart from others in London?

Each of our projects is director-led, from conception to completion. Our creative director has extensive experience leading clients through the RIBA design stages and effectively communicating her design vision to executive boards and high-profile clients. Our experience not only reflects our passion but also our ability to deliver high-quality spaces within short timeframes due to Amina’s tenure in the construction industry. This skill has been refined through a deep understanding of how to mitigate risks while achieving the best results. Black Patterns is a new studio with a mission to create inclusive, functional, and intelligent environments for our clients.

3. How do you approach the design process for workplace and residential projects?

We prioritise minimising risk by thoroughly understanding our client’s needs at the early stages and providing clear recommendations throughout the duration. We ensure that our design process includes frequent and thorough communication, reflecting our vision at every step. We will work to align with your programme aspirations, guiding you at every stage of your project.

4. How do you incorporate sustainability practices into your design projects?

Sustainability doesn’t have to be about achieving accreditation; like most things, it’s about knowledge and understanding. The construction industry has a huge effect on the environment, and unfortunately, words associated with sustainability are often used for the wrong reasons. We believe in advising our clients on best practices and the positive impact of specifying responsibly. The way we cool, heat, light, and dress our spaces has a significant effect when multiplied over multiple sites, as does the disposal of products when they are no longer required. It’s our responsibility to provide our clients with information and help them make informed decisions.

5. What is the typical timeline for completing a workplace or residential design project in London?

The timeline can vary depending on several factors, including the size and complexity of the project, client requirements, and any regulatory approvals needed. Generally, a typical timeline ranges from a few months for smaller projects to over a year for larger, more complex ones. At Black Patterns, we work closely with our clients and consultant teams to establish realistic timelines and milestones, ensuring efficient project delivery.

6. How do you address potential challenges or unexpected issues during the project?

Our projects align with the standards set by the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA). Each stage of our design process is planned to address potential risks before proceeding to the next stage. Our experienced team is adept at anticipating and mitigating risks. Additionally, we engage with industry experts to ensure we are proposing the best solutions for the optimal outcome. We prioritise proactive communication and advise our clients early on potential issues that could arise, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making throughout the project.
