Black Patterns

Black Patterns is a London-based studio specialising in workplace and residential interiors.

For us, design is about transforming the ordinary into the extraordinary. We want to improve our everyday experiences by creating environments that encourage engagement, improve productivity, and allow us to learn, play, and decompress. We avoid making repetitive creations; we test ideas and push boundaries. We reject the notion of limitations and embrace the belief that design is boundless. With every project, we challenge ourselves to explore new horizons, break free from convention, and redefine what’s possible.

We believe design is best approached collaboratively and inclusively. We incorporate diverse perspectives to cultivate the best ideas. Rooted in our founder’s South Asian heritage, we recognise that diverse backgrounds and abilities enhance creative output. Through compelling narratives that leave a lasting positive impact, we aim to create environments with soul.

Amina is a designer, creative director, and founder of Black Patterns. With two decades of industry experience, she leads a studio that blends revered influences with progressive perspectives, focused on creating honest, accessible, and functional design that improves our everyday experiences.

Amina Akhtar: Founder of Black Patterns Studio

With director-level experience in the consulting and construction sectors, Amina has gained invaluable insights into successfully designing and delivering a diverse range of projects. With interests in colour theory, textile design, and furniture, her aim is to create environments that continually surprise, uncovering needs we never knew existed and transforming our relationship with our surroundings.
