Black Patterns was selected to consolidate multiple functions across two floors of 1 Finsbury Square, creating a space that prioritised guest experience and embodied the company’s values of collaboration, integrity, and excellence. Working closely with the client, we designed an environment that encourages engagement, enhances productivity, and fosters learning. Built for longevity, the space reflects principles of experience-based design, ensuring it is inclusive, adaptable, and highly functional. With varied work styles accommodated, the design offers flexibility for a diverse range of users, allowing everyone to work how they want, where they want.
Our approach goes beyond achieving a timeless aesthetic. The design promotes well-being through natural materials and a muted palette that support cognitive function, ensuring all users feel comfortable and included. Curated artwork from local artists creates conversation and adds a personal touch to meeting rooms, lounges, and event spaces.
The non-consecutive floors led to the decision to dedicate level seven to a meeting suite, business lounge, and bar & lounge, consolidating all guest amenities in one place. To enhance the visitor experience, it was essential to create spaces where guests could step away from meetings and find what they needed—whether for a private phone call, a quiet spot to work, or simply a place to relax with a drink.
The bar and lounge offer a distinct change of pace, providing an immediate sense of respite. Accessed through a discreet door, this area offers an escape from the working environment. Warm walnut tones, limewash walls, and smoked mirrors evoke the ambiance of a private members’ club, creating an intimate atmosphere that fosters relaxation and connection while overlooking Finsbury Square.
